2017 Dec 06 - TCS3 Engineering (T.Denault, D.Griep ) Goals TCS3 pointing run. (1st half of night, Wed 12/06/2017, 6:45pm-11:45pm) 1. Encoder Measurement Did not measure encoder ratios. Asked DayCrew to clean/inspect gears/encoders/tachometer. - no reply from Daycrew. 2. How is the tcs servo performance? Tracking looks OK, Following error range is HA 0.119, Dec 0.245. Has slight/funny oscillation. 171206-tcs-tracking.png 3. Benchmark current TCS Starting at 6:45pm Using current TCS version v171122. Pattern: benchmark13 tpoint file: b1.dat .ape file: b1.ape Done at 7:05pm But only 12 (of 13) data was recorded. 4. Pointing Run Starting at 7:15 - using GRID w/ 70 stars Done taking data at 8:20 .. only 1hr 05min tpoint file: pointing.dat .ape file: pointing.ape fit using all data was 14.89 RMS (wow- good fit using all the data!) used all data, RMS = 14.89 Removed 70, RMS = 14.56 Removed 7, RMS = 14.08 Removed 70, RMS = 13.60 Removed 3 stars: line 70, 7, 70 using SLIST, then deleting outlier candidates. Got fit of: sky RMS 13.16 Adjusted data file is: pointing-adj.dat pointing.ps pointing.pdf - tpoint graphs (postscript and PDF) pointing_coeff.txt - resulting coefficients. Updated .tcs-init with new coefficients # coefficients from 2017/12/06 pointing run: IH +42.6692 ID -243.0673 NP +0.0218 CH -54.4107 ME -3.0431 MA +29.3558 HCES +107.8917 HCEC -49.8873 DCES -446.6121 DCEC +130.2660 FO +38.1483 TF -16.0647 TX -45.7847 5. B2 benchmark Doing benchmark "b2" with new coefficients Started at 9:05 ... finished at 9:22 Now, let's compare the 2 benchmarks: Here is a graph of HA error of b1.dat vs b2.datgnuplot to make the graphs: plot 'b1.ape' using 10 with linespoints title 'b1 HA pt.madj' replot 'b2.ape' using 10 with linespoints title 'b2 HA pt.madj' Here is a graph of DEC error of b1.dat vs b2.dat
gnuplot to make the graphs: plot 'b1.ape' using 11 with linespoints title 'b1 Dec pt.madj' replot 'b2.ape' using 11 with linespoints title 'b2 Dec pt.madj' 6. Conclusion Point run when nicely. Many, if not all, were in the FOV from slew to slew. New coefficients are almost equal, or just slighty better that the old one. HA has a slight improvment in the graph. DEC slop was about the same. Will keep the new TCS v171206 pointing coefficients. Finished at 21:30 7. MISC DG says observer are not making userlist, but giving target verbally. Need to address this? but how? Sound from the TCS goes to a monitor speaker, which has low volume. TCS speaker should be a normal speaker with adjustable volume. It is important for operators to head sounds.
